“Meet the Psympl® Team” is a series published under Psympl Answers, highlighting the leaders behind Psympl and their vision for transforming consumer engagement through Psychographic AI™. This edition features Mike Schiller, VP of Business Development at Psympl.

What is your background? Describe your career before Psympl.

I have been in the Healthcare space on both the provider and technology side for over 25 years. Everything from an individual contributor to CEO. Most of this time was spent in leadership positions in Business Development (sales) with well-established companies to start ups. I have worked at great companies such as PatientBond, MedEvolve, Streamline Health, Allscripts, GE Healthcare, IDX Systems Corp, and Caremark International.  I have been fortunate enough to, at one time or another, wear many hats and learn how good businesses are run and succeed. Through the years I have learned what to do and just as importantly, what not to do!

Why did you join Psympl?

The people, the products, and the power of psychographics. I have had the pleasure of working with the Sr. Management at Psympl in previous roles. I admire them, trust them, and enjoy working with them!  I am also a true believer in the power of the psychographic segmentation data and what can be achieved when it is operationalized. It just makes sense, and many businesses today are not utilizing or have the type of data Psympl has created to better performance and operational efficiency.

I am in the sales business, so knowing why your customers make decisions is, in my opinion, more important than who they are and what they have done. While demographics and behavioral data are good predictors, they are limited in persuasiveness. If I don’t know why they make the decisions they do, I am just guessing at how to interact with them and move the needle.  Psympl has done the work and market research and has this proven psychographic segmentation model, and we have seen this approach result in great success in other industries. We have built one specifically for the financial services industry and I believe it is a great fit to help “personalize” companies’ efforts the way their clients really want!

What is your current role and responsibilities?

I am a lead investor and VP of Business Development. I am helping the company build a business development strategy and mapping out our entry to the financial services market. This includes but is not limited to educating the market on the power of psychographics and envisioning what each of our solutions (Psychographic Data Sets, Psymplifier™, Consumer Console™ and Motivation Decoder™) will deliver to them in superior operational performance, new client acquisition, retention, and significant economic return.

What motivates you in your work?

Nothing is more motivational to me than being part of something new and innovative that has the chance to be transformational for customers. Introducing something new to a market is filled with challenges and obstacles, and involves helping clients overcome the fear of change. Simply, you must think strategically. Success is based on process, preparation, a willingness to be creative, and working with great people to think outside of the lines. For some, this is more than they signed up for. For me, it is why I get up in the morning!

What are your interests outside of work?

My family tells me I have too many! I am sure to make time for mountain biking, golf, boating, travel, a real estate side hustle, and being an “obnoxious” fan of Kansas Jayhawks basketball, Chicago Cubs baseball, and Colorado Avalanche hockey.
